Learning Journeys to Come
Building on the experience of the Green Glasses EU Learning Journeys, new programmes are currently being developed across Europe. These future journeys will continue to combine sustainable travel, local encounters, and hands-on learning in real-life contexts. Upcoming destinations include Iceland, Portugal, Greece, and Penna in Teverina (Umbria, Italy). Each location offers a unique perspective on how communities respond to ecological and social challenges—ranging from climate adaptation and renewable energy to biodiversity, regenerative agriculture, and cultural resilience. Participants will once again have the opportunity to meet local changemakers, engage in meaningful dialogue, and explore practical approaches that can be transferred to their own communities. The journeys are designed not only as learning experiences, but as spaces for reflection, exchange, and new ideas.
September 2027
This learning journey explores Iceland as a laboratory for the climate future. Participants discover both high-tech solutions such as Direct Air Capture and carbon mineralisation and nature-based approaches like reforestation and peatland restoration—combined with hands-on learning and a green journey by train and ferry across the North Atlantic.
Oktober 2027
This learning journey explores climate adaptation in Portugal. Together with ForestWISE in Porto, participants discover nature-based strategies for resilient forests, water management and wildfire prevention—learning how communities can live with climate change and transfer these insights to their own regions.
June 2027
This Green Glasses journey explores sustainability in Northern Greece. In Thessaloniki, participants discover the city’s vibrant second-hand scene and experience sustainable mobility through the new metro system. At Mount Olympus, the focus shifts to forest fire prevention, biodiversity and community-based resilience in one of Greece’s most iconic landscapes.
Oct. 2026 and April 2027
Parla Verde is an unconventional language journey combining Italian learning with nature, culture and sustainability. Inspired by Montessori-style self-directed learning, participants practice the language through exploration, small research tasks and everyday encounters—building confidence, curiosity and real communication rather than classroom perfection.
